Privacy Policy

MiNote is a free, offline-first note-taking app. It has no account system, no servers and no analytics — this policy explains, in plain terms, exactly what that means for your data.

At a glance

1. Introduction

OzdemirSoftware ("we", "us") built the MiNote app as a free application. The app is provided at no cost and is intended for use as is.

This Privacy Policy explains what information MiNote handles, how it is used, and what choices you have. By using the app you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the app.

MiNote is designed to be offline-first: it works entirely on your device and does not require an internet connection, an account or a sign-in of any kind.

2. Information We Collect

We do not collect any personal information. MiNote has no servers and no backend of any kind, so there is nowhere for your information to be sent. Specifically, we do not collect, transmit, sell or store:

  • Your name, email address, phone number or any other contact details
  • Account credentials — the app has no registration or login
  • The content of your notes, their titles, or any metadata about them
  • Device identifiers, advertising IDs or IP addresses
  • Usage analytics, behavioural data or crash reports
  • Location data of any kind

The app stores one category of information on your device and nowhere else: the notes you create, along with your own display preferences (such as the light/dark theme and the grid/list view setting). This information never leaves your device.

3. How Your Notes Are Stored

MiNote uses a local database. When you first open the app, it creates its own database in your device's internal storage and saves every note you create there. Your notes are readable only by the app itself, inside your device's app-private storage area.

Your theme and view preferences are stored separately on the device using the platform's standard local preferences storage.

Important: because there is no cloud sync or backup, uninstalling MiNote — or clearing its app data — permanently deletes all of your notes. They cannot be restored by us or by anyone else afterwards. If a note matters to you, copy it somewhere safe before removing the app.

You can delete any individual note at any time from within the app, and you can remove all of your data at once by uninstalling the app or clearing its data in your device settings. Since we never receive your data, no request to us is necessary to erase it.

4. Device Permissions

MiNote requests no device permissions at all. It does not ask for access to your camera, microphone, photos, files, contacts, calendar, location or notifications. The Android build does not even declare the internet permission.

5. Network Access

MiNote does not send your notes, your preferences or any information about you over the internet. There is no server to send it to.

For full transparency, there is one exception worth naming. The app uses the Ubuntu typeface via the Google Fonts library, which may request the font file from Google's font service (fonts.gstatic.com) the first time the app runs on some platforms. Such a request contains no notes and no personal information — like any web request it exposes only your IP address and basic connection details to Google, and the downloaded font is then cached on your device. On Android this request cannot occur at all, because the app declares no internet permission and simply falls back to your system font. Google's handling of such requests is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

6. Cookies and Tracking

Cookies are small data files commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers, sent to a browser by a website and stored on the device.

MiNote does not use cookies or any other tracking technology. The app is a native application with no embedded browser or web view, and it includes no advertising, analytics, attribution or A/B-testing services that could set cookies or build a profile of you. There is nothing to opt into or out of.

7. Location Information

MiNote does not request, access, collect, use or store your location — neither precise GPS location nor approximate or network-based location. No location permission is declared by the app.

8. Third Parties and Sharing

We do not share, sell, rent or trade your information with anyone, for the simple reason that we never receive it. We employ no third-party companies or individuals to process data on our behalf, and the app integrates no third-party advertising or analytics services.

The only third parties involved in your use of MiNote are the app stores you download it from (such as Google Play or the App Store) and, where applicable, the font service described in section 5. Their own privacy policies govern what they collect when you download or update an app; that activity is outside our control and unrelated to what happens inside MiNote.

9. Security

Because MiNote never transmits or stores your data outside your device, the usual risks of data breaches on a company's servers do not apply — there is no server holding your notes.

Your notes are protected by your device's own security: they are kept in the app's private storage area, which other apps cannot read on a standard, non-rooted and non-jailbroken device. We therefore recommend keeping your device locked with a passcode or biometric lock and keeping its operating system up to date.

Please note that no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your Rights

Privacy laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the CCPA give you rights over personal data held about you — including the right to access, correct, export, delete and restrict processing of that data, and the right not to have it sold.

We hold no personal data about you whatsoever, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export or delete, and nothing that could be sold or shared. You retain complete and direct control over the only copy of your data, which sits on your own device: you can view, edit and delete any note from within the app at any moment, and uninstalling the app erases all of it.

If you nevertheless wish to exercise a right or ask a question about your data, you can contact us using the details in section 13.

11. Children's Privacy

MiNote is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children — or from anyone else, as no personal information is collected at all.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information in connection with this app, please contact us so that we can address your concerns.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, if the app gains a new feature that changes how data is handled. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes.

Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date at the top, and they take effect as soon as they are published here.
